hello everyone!  im new to chac and desperately need decorating advice!   I am dying to redo my kitchen!  we moved to our new home two years ago, and have tons of   " i want to's" on our list.  Just now getting to the kitchen.  my entire house (except for the newly redone bathroom) is brown!  as in panelling brown.  the kitchen wall paper is over 20 years old...khaki with little green and red flowers (which look like little dots so its not on the hideous level  .  just to give a quick description .....the living room and kitchen are only seperated by a bar that has unpaintable rough posts on each side.  there are under-bar cabinets and the pantry cabinet connects to the panneled hallway only seperated by molding.  the livingroom has the rough panneled walls with wood beams on ceiling.  i NEED a color scheme and ideas!!!! Anything is appreciated...Thanks in advance!

What's your favorite color?  We painted rough paneling...it can be done!...looks great!  Will you be removing the wallpaper?  I think anything can be painted.

Hi, boopnut.  My favorite color is going to be Red or Yellow.  I have been afraid to paint the rough panelling, afraid it wouldn't look right.  As far as the wall paper, Im not sure.  The wall paper is on particle board....I was thinking about wallpapering over it IF I could find a paper that I liked.  I am not a wp fan!

Wallpapering over the WP could be a good option.  There are wallpapers that are very plain so that could look really nice.  Another thought on the rough paneling, is to rip it off and either put up something else or put it right on top of the rough paneling if you can't get it off.  Finish with a base board.  How about a paneling that looks like wainscoating?  That could be cool.  A bar shouldn't be that expensive to do.
