Hi, everyone. I'm new to this club, and it seems like woodworking might not be one of the most popular threads, but it is certainly my passion, at least at the moment. I built myself a 12x16 shop last year and have already filled it to overflowing with tools. It's a good thing I put a half-loft in it or I wouldn't have anywhere to store my stock! I love creating new and unusual things, and like most crafters, I end up giving most of them away. My "greatest accomplishment" out there was a headboard that I designed and built. This year we decided we needed a new mattress set, and being the loving wife that I am, I decided to order a California King set to replace our Queen size one, thinking my 6'3" hubby would be more comfortable on a larger bed. Didn't think about the fact that NOTHING was going to fit the new set! New sheets, new frame, new comforter set, etc. Anyway, I decided that instead of buying a new headboard, I would just build one. Our entire house is done in western, so it's only fitting for our headboard to reflect that, as well. Using cedar, I designed a huge longhorn head that fastens into 4x4 posts that I roughed out and shaped to look like log. There are vertical slats that run from the bottom of the horns to the bottom board for more stability. It turned out just like I imagined it, and that's pretty amazing in itself. Now, I'm working on a 'chuckwagon' shelving unit to go in my kitchen. I don't know what I'm going to do when I run out of room for my "creations". Guess I'll just have to start adding rooms to the house..........

WELCOME OKIE! I hope you enjoy this site. There are some neat people here, with a wide range of talents! Woodburning on gourds is as close as I get to woodwork anymore...and not real good at that yet! but am reminded that I have a box of unfinished wooden dolls that I should/could work on... I'm a great gma, 68 yrs old, retired in Idaho, and enjoy lots of different kinds of crafts. 4 kids,10 grands and 8 great grands. I hope to see you around a lot. Lil Lillie gmalil’s PhotoBucket
