Birdhouse Bath Caddy
Creative Bath Storage!

Online Rating: (4.5/10)

Are you always looking for the right receptacle to store your bath and beauty products in the bathroom? This project is your solution!

You will need:
• Pre-made birdhouse
• Craft paint
• Clear acrylic spray
• Flower-seed packets
• Double-sided tape
• Spanish moss (optional)
• Plant hangers to match your décor
• Hammer
• Sandpaper
• Tack cloth
• Paintbrushes
• Wood glue
• Circle cutter

STEP 1: Find the correct size box. Find a box in the correct size to fit on your bathroom counter or toilet back.

STEP 2: Remove roof and perch. If the roof parts and bird perch are not glued in place, tap them off with a hammer or twist and remove carefully.

STEP 3: Sand and paint. Lightly sand the box and wipe it clean with a tack cloth. Paint the roof and perch separately to avoid overlap of paint at the juncture of the house walls and roof or perch. Paint the entire birdhouse except the roof using light-colored craft paint (mix the paint with a small amount of water to create a wash instead of paint if you like). Paint the roof parts with darker craft paint. Try to avoid getting paint on the roof or wall parts where they will meet. Allow to air dry for several hours.

STEP 4: Attach roof and perch. Spread a light bead of wood glue on the top of the wall or the bottom of the roof where they will meet. Attach the roof parts to the house at the glued junctions and again by nailing it in place with finishing nails. Be sure to overlap the roof parts as they were originally assembled. Insert the unpainted perch in place by adding a drop of wood glue and placing in the appropriate hole.

STEP 5: Apply finish. Spray the entire house and roof with clear acrylic spray one or two times, allowing time to dry in between. The spray creates a washable finish, which is what you need to have in a bathroom setting.

STEP 6: Decorate. Leave the house undecorated if desired. Or, if you like a garden theme, find some old-fashioned flower-seed packet ornaments at the floral shop or hardware store. Remove the seeds, and using a circle cutter, cut a circle the size of the birdhouse hole. Position the hole in the packet directly over the birdhouse hole and attach it to the house with double-sided tape. Put a little Spanish moss in the birdhouse hole (optional). Hang one or two plant hangers over the edge of the roof or side of the house according to your tastes.

If you are half handy with wood why not make your own, trust me it is not that hard. If you are a true crafter you can figure out how big you want your own, make a paper pattern. Go to your wood/hobby store and you will find balse wood(hint if you go to a lumber yard they usually have balsa a lot cheaper. Check it out before you run out and buy the thing already made, then have to tear it apart, then restruct it.. Around our house I probably have enough junk wood of this size to make several at a no cost, yes it may need to be cut/etc. BUT THINK OF THE SATISFACTION OF HAVING DONE THE WHOLE THING BY YOURSELF. INSTEAD OF BUYING AND PUTTING IT TOGETHER AGAIN..... CRAFT FROM THE HEART NOT FROM THE STORE....eco-friendly JED

That is a cute idea for the bathroom? Could you use popsicles sticks to build the front and sides and use as a spice rack? My daughter is decoratoring her house with old birdhouses and pictures of birdhouses. crafty55

Mosaic Bird Bath

My sister decided to change her bathroom sink, so she asked me if I could do something with her old pedestal sink. I decided to mosaic it and turn it into a birdbath. I used pieces of tile from other projects and glass marbles. I used silicone in the bottom of the sink and put the marbles in the basin to hold water for the birds. It is quite a conversation piece sitting in her front yard.
