Make a friendly polar bear from air dry clay and mount on a plastic snowflake for a quick ornament that will leave you smiling.

Skill: 1     Time: 1     Cost: 1

Finished size: 4" Ornament

You will need:
•  Air dry clay: white, red, black, green
•  Acrylic roller
•  4" plastic snowflake
•  10" silver ribbon for hanger
•  Scrubby pad
•  Tacky craft glue
Craft knife, scissors, waxed paper
Optional: Milk bottle cap

*Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue was used for this project.
Note: For product information, see end of article.

•  Refer to photo for design and placement.
•  Keep air dry clay wrapped tightly in plastic when not using.

STEP 1: Make face. Protect work surface with waxed paper. Roll out a 1 1/2" circle of white clay to form polar bear face. Note: A milk bottle cap can be used to make a perfectly round face. To add texture, gently press a scrubby sponge pad into surface.

STEP 2: Make ears. To make ears, roll two tiny balls of clay. Then mix a touch of red clay with some white to make pink. Roll two smaller pink balls of clay for inner ears. Press pink inner ears to outer ears. Again use scrubby sponge to add texture. Add a little glue to back top of face and press on ears.

STEP 3: Add details. To make bow tie, roll and flatten two 3/4" teardrops of red clay. Roll a tiny ball for bow center. Add a tiny bit of glue and press ball onto bow. Add more glue to bottom of polar bear face and press bow in place. Roll three tiny balls of red clay for berries. Form tiny leaves from green clay. Use craft knife to make jagged edges on leaves. Glue leaves over left ear. Glue on berries. Roll an oval of black clay for nose and two tiny balls of clay for eyes. Glue onto face. Glue face to center of plastic snowflake and let dry overnight.

STEP 4: Finish. For hanger, glue or tie ribbon to ornament.

Christmas Ornament Idea

If you get your prescriptions filled at Target, you know that they have different color/ sized rubber rings around the mouth of the bottle to identify your meds.

I can't believe I have gone this long and not found a craft use for them until now!  Take the rings off the bottles and wrap green embroidery thread (or yarn) around the ring. Keep the threads close together so none of the ring is showing and glue the loose end down when you get all around the ring. Glue seed beads (red is nice, but any color will do.) around the ring for berries or lights to make a tiny wreath that you can use for a pin or package decoration. You can also fashion a teeny bow to put on the top of the wreath with ribbon or yarn. If you use your imagination, you can probably come up with more Christmas-sy designs or holiday decorations.

I love finding craft uses for stuff that is usually thrown away!
