•  4" craft foam egg*
•  Two coordinating ribbons: 1 yd. 5/16" sheer, 2 yds. 1/4" satin
•  Matching pastel tissue paper
•  Paintbrush
•  Matte decoupage medium*
•  White tacky craft glue*
•  Optional: tape measure
Craft pins, jar, pencil, small scissors, tape measure, wooden skewers

*The following products were used for this project: Aleene's Tacky Glue • Plaid Mod Podge matte medium • STYROFOAM brand craft foam.

Note: For product information, see end of article.

•  Print and cut out pattern here.

STEP 1: Preparation. Use pattern to cut out six pieces of colored tissue paper for each egg. To hold egg while gluing, insert a wooden skewer into center of bottom (large end) of egg. Make a hole with pencil to mark center of egg top. Make a pencil dot to mark six equal divisions around middle of egg, slightly more than 1 3/4" apart.

STEP 2: Cover eggs. Working in sections, spread a thin layer of white tacky craft glue on egg surface from pencil mark to skewer. Lay section of tissue paper gently onto glued surface and smooth down with a dry, soft brush or fingertips (Photo A). Use small scissors to make small snips along edges so tissue will lie flat against egg. Glue remaining tissue pieces onto egg in same way, overlapping edges of sections slightly and snipping places so they lie flat. Place skewer side down in jar to dry. To seal, coat egg with decoupage medium. When dry, remove skewer by twisting gently.

STEP 3: Add ribbon. Wrap sheer ribbon around egg at section marks, beginning at skewer hole, up over top of egg, and back down opposite side to skewer hole. Cut ribbon. Place a dot of glue into skewer hole and tuck ribbon ends inside with skewer tip (Photo B). If needed, use craft pins to hold in place. Wrap remaining sheer ribbon around remaining section marks in same way. Wrap satin ribbon around egg on each side of sheer ribbons (Photo C). Glue ends into skewer hole in same way.

STEP 4: Finish. Tie a small ribbon bow. Glue and pin bow to top of egg.

Ribbon Ideas

Often I find unique fabric ribbon in thrift stores as well as craft stores. Depending on the width, you can use it to decorate many household items. The sheer ribbon is perfect as an upper and lower accent border for a plain lampshade. I have also used ribbon on many glass containers of various sizes. These can then be used as centerpieces or focal points in the home or on your patio. My favorite is lining the bottom of a window scarf. It’s quick and easy. Each project can be completed using a hot glue gun.
