By: Debra Quartermain

Online Rating: (0/10)

When you're done baking, make those cookie cutters into sweet holiday decorations. Fill with craft foam and needle felt in no time at all. An easy recipe that makes a great little gift.

Finished size: 3" Ornaments

Skill: 1   Time: 1   Cost: 1

You will need:
•  Small cookie cutters: bell, stocking
•  1" x 10" x 12" craft foam sheet*
•  Wool roving*: Natural, Cherry
•  1/2 yd. green ribbon
•  Needle felting tool
•  Snowflake mold
•  Foam pad or scrap of craft foam
Scissors, soft cloth

*The following products were used for this project: Clover Needlecraft needle felting tool, mold • National Nonwovens Wool Wisps wool roving • STYROFOAM craft foam sheet.

Note: For product information, see page 00 or creativehomeartsclub.com.

STEP 1: Cut foam. Place craft foam sheet on hard flat surface. Place cookie cutter sharp side down on foam and press evenly and firmly to cut through. Foam will fill cookie cutter opening. Break off any remaining pieces of foam from outer edge of cookie cutter. Use soft cloth to brush off any loose bits of foam.

STEP 2: Cover foam. Cover foam with Cherry wool. Needle felt entire surface, adding more wool if needed. Repeat for back of foam.

STEP 3: Add details. Use back of cookie cutter designs as front or ornament. Place small snowflake from mold on center of bell. Insert small amounts of Natural wool into mold. Needle felt. Repeat for stocking. Use circle shapes on mold and small amounts of Natural wool to make line of dots on bell—one on top and larger circle to create bell bottom. Add three small dots of Natural to stocking.

STEP 4: Finish. Cut ribbon in half. Insert through top of each cookie cutter and tie into loop. Cut ends at a slant.

Color Matching

When I am working on a home decorating project and need to match colors for window treatments, accessories, and so on, I find some embroidery floss in the color(s) I need. (Floss comes in almost every color imaginable.) I cut small pieces of the floss and attach them to an index card that I keep in my purse. That way, wherever I am shopping, I always have it with me in case I spot something that might be good. It also works when trying to find just the right color top or pants for an outfit.
