•  Three 4” craft foam eggs*
•  8 oz. block air-dry clay*
•  18 gauge silver or gold wire
•  Various 1/2” and 1/4” jewel tone ribbons
•  Fabric glue*
•  Craft foam glue*
Acrylic clay roller, cornstarch, fine sandpaper, gold ball straight pins, jar or glass, paper towel, parchment paper, wire cutter, wood skewer

*The following products were used for this project: Beacon Adhesives Fabri-Tac & Hold the Foam glues • Creative Paperclay air-dry clay • Krylon Gold Foil Metallic spray paint • STYROFOAM craft foam egg.

Note: For product information, see end of article.

•  Allow paint and glue to dry between steps.
•  Use spray paints only outdoors or in a well-ventilated area.
•  See photo for details and placement.

STEP 1: Preparation. Lightly dust glass or parchment paper with cornstarch. Use acrylic roller to roll a thin even layer of clay.

STEP 2: Cover egg. Completely cover craft foam egg with thin even layer of clay, smoothing out all seams (Photo A). Insert wood skewer into narrow end (top) of egg to use as a handle. Place skewer into jar or glass and let clay dry completely. Sand until smooth. Use damp paper towel to remove dust from egg.

STEP 3: Paint egg. Spray egg with gold paint. When dry, repeat until egg is completely covered.

STEP 4: Make hanger. Carefully remove skewer. Use wire cutters to cut 1” of 18 gauge wire. To make hanger, bend wire around pencil or thin dowel rod (Photo B). Insert hanger into top of egg and secure with craft foam glue.

STEP 5: Add ribbon. Cut four 3” lengths of ribbon. Beginning at top, use fabric glue to adhere to egg, creating four equal sections (Photo C). Glue more ribbon around center of egg, covering raw edges of shorter ribbons. Insert gold ball straight pins into egg to secure ribbons and add detail.
Cut one 12” length of ribbon and insert through wire at top. Tie in an overhand knot.

STEP 6: Finish. Cut another 12" of ribbon and tie in bow. Cut ends at a slant. Use fabric glue to adhere to top of egg. Add another straight pin to hold bow in place while drying.

Easy gluing

Here’s my tip: When gluing a number of items, set the item on a page of a magazine or newspaper and apply your glue. When you’re ready to do the next one, just turn the page for a clean surface. No more getting excess glue on things accidentally. My daughter told me this and it works great!
