STEP 1: Preparation. Apply a sheet of fusible web to back of a 9" x 12" piece of pink felt and set aside. Use sewing machine and pink thread to sew a row of decorative stitching down center of white felt. Sew 8-10 parallel rows of straight stitches 1/4" apart on either side of decorative stitching (Photo A). Apply fusible web to back of stitched white felt.

STEP 2: Cut and fuse pieces. Trace patterns onto paper backing of white felt. Cut out and remove paper backing. Press cut out pieces to top of pink felt, leaving at least 1/2" between designs. Use scalloped-edge scissors to cut around fused designs, leaving a scant 1/8" border of pink felt (Photo B).
For Bib ornament only: Cut out bib pocket and blanket stitch to front of ornament before proceeding.
Remove paper backing from pink felt pieces and press to top of pistachio felt. Cut around fused designs, leaving a 1/4" border. Use as template to cut a second layer of pistachio felt. Pin together.

STEP 3: Stitch & stuff ornaments. Use embroidery thread and needle to blanket stitch around sides of ornament (Photo C). Use finger to push a small amount of stuffing into ornament top.

STEP 4: Make hangers. For Mitten and Stocking ornaments, cut 8" of ribbon and fold in half to form a loop and overlap ends. Trim ends at a slant. Pin to top left corner of ornament at fold. Cut 6" of ribbon and tie a small two-loop bow. Trim ends at a slant. Center bow on top of loop. Stitch a pompom to center of bow and loop, stitching through top edge of ornament. Stitch another pompom to toe of stocking.
For Bib ornament, cut two 8" pieces of ribbon. Fold one end back and forth twice at end to layer. Place one white button on top and stitch to one upper corner of ornament. Repeat for opposite side. Trim ends at a slant, and tie in a bow at top to form hanger. Cut 6" of ribbon and tie in a bow. Stitch a pompom to center of bow, stitching through top of pocket as shown.

STEP 5: Finish. Glue top of each ornament closed.

Organizing Floss and Threads

To keep down clutter in my sewing room and keep some semblance of order to leftover floss and threads, I start with a clean, dry box that used to hold baby wipes. Then I cut down old envelopes that come in the mail to fit inside, seal them and cut each end off with a tab extending up at varying places to make them look like file tabs. With floss that’s left from a project, I write the type (DMC, Coats & Clarks, etc.) and the color number on the tab, wind the floss around two fingers, put it in the pocket and then stack them in numerical order in the box. It takes up a lot less room than bags of this and that.
