These fun fancied-up garden gloves are the perfect perch for a soft needle-felted chick. It’s great for a wall or door decoration just in time for Easter!

• Pair of garden gloves
• 3 1/16" x 2 5/16" foam egg*
• 1" deep foam base to needle felt on
• Wool roving*: 2 oz. yellow, scrap pink
• Needle felt needle*
• Four black head pins
• Two green brads
• 6" pink ribbon
• 1/8 yd. flower fabric*
• 1/8 yd. lavender lattice fabric*
• 1/8 yd. yellow polka-dot fabric
• 1/2 yd. pink cotton
• 4" x 4" blue print fabric
• 7/8" buttons: 1 yellow, 1 purple
• 5/8" buttons: 2 green
• Disappearing marker
• Sewing machine & matching thread
• Rotary cutter & mat
• Circle templates: 3", 5"
• Fabric glue*

• Sew ¼" seams with right sides together unless otherwise indicated.
• Add a touch of glue to keep pins and brads secure.
• Allow glue to dry between steps.
• See photo for details and placement. STEP 1: Make chick. Rub candle along knife edge and cut egg in half lengthwise. Brush away loose bits. Cover entire egg loosely with yellow wool and needle felt in place, adding extra as needed. Insert black pins for eyes. For beak, place a 1/4" ball of yellow wool between eyes. Needle felt to face in a slight oval shape. Needle felt center of beak more to indent to make it appear open. Use disappearing marker to draw heart on front of chick. Place pink wool in heart and needle felt in place. Insert two green brads into center of heart. On foam base, needle felt a 3" flat square of yellow. Use pattern to cut out two wings. Needle felt the end of one wing on each side of chick. STEP 2: Cut fabric pieces. For gloves, cut two 5" x 21" pieces from pink fabric. Cut two 3" x 21" pieces from flower fabric. Cut two 2 1/2" x 21" pieces each from lavender lattice print, and yellow polka-dot. For bows, cut two 3" x 3" pieces from lavender lattice print. For flowers, cut two 5" circles from pink fabric. Cut one 3" circle each from blue print and yellow polka-dot. STEP 3: Sew gloves. Pin and sew one long side of pink fabric and flower print together. Sew lattice print to opposite side of flower print. Fold strips in half lengthwise with right sides together and sew long raw edges together. Turn right side out. Press. Repeat for second piece.
Fold yellow polka-dot strips in half with wrong sides together. Finish raw edge. Align edge of yellow polka-dot strips to bottom of two larger strips. Sew short ends with right sides together. Finish seam. To gather, sew basting stitches along bottom of strips. Pull up stitches to fit and pin to top edge of glove. Sew together. STEP 4: Make bows. Fold bow pieces in half with right sides together. Sew longer edges together Turn right side out. Turn ends in 1/4" and topstitch. Wrap thread around center of each bow to gather it. Knot thread but do not cut. Sew button to center of each bow. Sew one bow to front of each glove as shown. STEP 5: Finish. To make yo-yos, sew basting stitch around edge of each fabric circle 1/8" from raw edge. Pull up stitches and knot thread. Place a smaller yo-yo in center of each larger one. Sew a button to center of each layered yo-yo. Sew yo-yos to glove fronts as shown. Sources:
