•  Sew seams with right sides together, using a 1/2" seam allowance.
•  Materials given are for the approximate bookcase size shown; adjust as needed for other sizes.
•  Allow glue to dry between steps.

Shelf Cover
STEP 1: Measure & cut fabric.
Measure width and depth of shelving unit top. To determine cut dimensions of cover top, add 1" for ease and 1" for seam allowances. Use same cut dimensions for widths of skirt sides and back. To determine cut length of the sides and back, measure height of unit, add 1/2" for a seam allowance and 1" for hem allowance.
From coordinating fabric, cut one rectangle in cover top dimensions, two 8"-wide border strips in determined length, and two 7 1/2"-wide pleat inserts in determined length.
From main fabric, cut two side panels in determined depth and length and one back panel in determined width and length.
For each front panel, divide cut width in half. To half-width measurement, add 3" for pleat allowance and 1 3/4" for front overlap. Cut two panels in total width and determined length.

STEP 2: Add borders to front panels. On each border strip, press long edges under 1/2". Press strip in half lengthwise with wrong sides together. For left front panel, wrap a border strip around long right edge of panel and pin in place. Repeat for right front panel, wrapping border strip around long left edge. Topstitch borders in place along both long edges, stitching through all layers.

STEP 3: Sew skirt panels. Sew skirt panels together along long edges (Figure 1).

STEP 4: Make corner pleats. For each front corner pleat, press pleat panel under at front and side seams so seams meet in center of pleat panel. Baste upper edges together (Figure B).

STEP 5: Sew skirt to top. Pin skirt sides and back to top, matching side seams of skirt to corners of top. Mark center of front edge of top and center of top edge of each border strip. Overlap border strips and pin to top with all center marks matching. Pin front panels to top, working from outward from center. Fold excess fabric into a pleat 4" from each corner and pin in place. Sew skirt to top.

STEP 6: Hem skirt. Press lower edge of skirt under in a doubled 1/2" hem. Topstitch in place.

STEP 7: Make buttonholes & sew on buttons. Overlap front borders with edges even and pin together. Beginning 2" from top, mark five horizontal buttonholes spaced 6" apart. Stitch buttonholes and cut open. Mark button placement through center of each buttonhole. Sew buttons in place. Sew a button to top of each front corner pleat.

STEP 8: Finish. Place cover over shelving unit. Option: To ensure neat edges, cut a piece of cardboard e exact size of cover top and place on top of shelving if you want.

Lampshade
STEP 1: Prepare fabric motifs.
Select areas of fabric to be used for embellishing shade. Cut out each motif 1" from edges. Following manufacturer’s directions, apply fusible web to wrong side of each motif. Cut out motifs along design edges and remove paper backing.

STEP 2: Fuse motifs to shade. Position one fabric motif at a time on shade. To fuse each motif to lampshade, place paper backing from fusible web on top of motif. Use tip of iron to press motifs firmly in place. Note: Do not place iron directly on the shade if it has a plastic or styrene lining.

STEP 3: Apply ribbon. Use fabric adhesive to glue ribbon along top and bottom edges of lampshade. Tie a 4"-wide bow and glue to top edge of one side. Trim ends at a slant.

STEP 4: Finish. Randomly glue two buttons to each side of the lamp shade.

A great idea & very pretty with the linings and pleats. I'm going to use an industrial shelving unit (tall) for my fabric stash. this would keep everything dust free!
