Chair Covers

STEP 1: Cut chair fabric. For cover, cut two 9 3/4" x 42" panels from each broadcloth fabric. For borders, cut two 6" x 31 1/2" from green butterfly fabric. For ties, cut two 8" x 41 1/2" from patchwork fabric.

STEP 2: Sew chair covers. Pin and sew lengths of one pink and blue panel together. Sew yellow panel to other length of pink panel. To hem, press under 1/4" on all four sides. Press under again 1/2". Press under 1/2" on each short end of butterfly border. Press border in half lengthwise with right sides out. Pin border under one bottom width of cover, overlapping cover ½ " over raw edges of border. Topstitch around all four sides.

STEP 3: Sew tie. Fold tie piece in half lengthwise. Sew raw edges, leaving 2" open for turning. Clip corners and turn. Sew opening shut.

Repeat Steps 1-3 for second chair cover.

STEP 4: Make pockets. Cut two 8" circles from green butterfly fabric, two from pink check fabric, and two from batting. Layer fabrics, placing butterfly print and pink check fabric with right sides together with batting on wrong side of check fabric. Sew completely around, leaving small opening in each circle. Clip and turn. Press. Repeat for second circle. Pin two circles together with butterfly print facing in. Top stitch, leaving 1/3 of circle open at top. Fold front open end over and press down. Repeat for second pocket. Fuse Elsie and Gertrude appliqués to centers of two doilies. Glue doilies over folded portion of pockets as shown. Apply flower vine appliqués to bottom of circles. Glue a flower appliqués to center of each silk flower. Insert flowers into pockets.

STEP 5: Finish. Hand pleat covers to fit chair top widths. Fold covers over top of chairs, adjusting to fit. Wrap a tie around the middle of each cover, overlapping ends. Pin in place. Pin a pocket to each chair cover above ties. Place three flowers in each pocket.

Table Runner

STEP 1: Cut fabric. For center panel, cut one 6 ½" x 38" piece from pink flower fabric. For borders, cut two 6" x 44" and two 6" x 12" pieces from green butterfly fabric. For padding, cut one 5 1/2" x 36 1/2" piece from felt. For bows, cut two 6" x 44" pieces from pink check fabric.

STEP 2: Assemble runner. Press long butterfly borders in half lengthwise with right sides out. Pin and sew one border along each long edge of pink center panel. Press seam allowance towards center panel. Topstitch ¼" from seam. Press under 1/2" on each end of short border pieces. Press each in half lengthwise with right sides out. Wrap a border around each end of runner. Pin in place and topstitch across width of runner. For heat pad, turn runner to wrong side and center felt piece on runner. Pin in place. Turn runner to right side and topstitch along lengths of center panel, catching felt in stitches. Trim felt if needed.

STEP 3: Make bows. Press bow pieces in half lengthwise. Sew raw edges together, leaving 2" open for turning. Clip corners and turn. Slipstitch opening shut. Fold (do not tie) into bow shape with 8" loops. Pleat center of bow and wrap tightly with thread. Knot and clip threads.

STEP 4: Add appliqués. For butterfly trail, use disappearing marker to draw two curved lines on flower panel as shown. Use perle cotton floss to sew a running stitch along each line. Fuse a Flutterbug appliqué over each stitched line. Arrange flower appliqués randomly on center panel. Fuse in place. Fuse vine appliqués to ends of runner. Fuse flower cluster to knot of bow. Fuse a Flutterbug patch appliqué to one tail of each bow. Glue bows to ends of runner.

Napkin Rings
STEP 1: Cut fabric & rings.
Cut a 2" x 36" strip from yellow and blue fabric. Use craft knife to cut two 1 1/2" wide rings from cardboard tube.

STEP 2: Wrap cloth. Press under 1/4" on both short and one long side of fabric strips. Glue one short end to inside of ring. Wrap fabric around ring, overlapping finished side of strip as you go. Glue end to inside of ring.

STEP 3: Finish. Cut four eyelet lace pieces to fit inside edge of ring with 1/2" overlap. Glue bound edge of lace inside of rings. Glue appliqués around tops of rings.
